Week 1 - Yinqi Wang - Leaf & Sky

 Week 1 - Yinqi Wang - Leaf & Sky

The picture was taken from the window of the dance studio at Anteater Recreation Center, the place where I will do my stretching. Within a day, I can observe that the sunlight shifts in different tones. The light in the morning looks a bit cooler and it becomes warmer during the afternoon. The picture here was taken around 6:00 pm. The descending sunlight gives the leaves gold shimmery edges. The shade and the lights slightly vibrate with the breeze. Especially against the blue background of the sky (in a cooler tone), the whole picture provides a visual depth that comforts the eyes. Stretching sometimes can be really intense, but by taking in the soothing lights from the sun and the small shivering of the leaves, the tension within my muscles is released. I feel that I am breathing with nature.

Week #1 danny, first blog

I was walking on campus on Monday, enjoying some alone time when I looked towards my right while crossing the bridge and noticed a student laying down under a tree. It was a very peaceful moment, it was around 5 PM and the shadows created by the sun light crashing into the trees began to grow ever so slightly each minute as a stood there and finally realized this was a great time to take a picture.
Looking at this picture now after a few days I am reminded of  Tuesday's class when when we were putting the little sheets of metal in the lights to give different textures. I think that the beauty of lighting design is that we are controlling our own little sun with just the push of a few keys

Week 0 - Jimmy Balistreri - Sunlight and the Redwoods (Example Blog Post)

One of my favorite places in the world is the Santa Cruz Mountains in central California. It is where my wife grew up and getting to know this part of the world while we got to know each other has been a huge part of our relationship. When I first visited her home, we arrived late at night so I didn't get to really take in the redwoods that surround the house. When I woke up the next morning, the sunlight broken up by the texture from the trees was the first thing that greeted me. It is a gentle, warm sunlight in which the shadows of the massive old growth dance. Every time I come back, these beautiful mornings remind me of that first visit and how amazed I was by the ancient forest around me.

Welcome to the Dance 287 Journal for Fall 2022

As artists, we all see the world in different ways, but we all incorporate our surroundings into our art.

To help understand lighting in a new way, these blog posts aim to increase your appreciation for light, in your daily life, and expand your vision as an artist.  They will also help develop your eye for light, not just in the theatre, but in your daily life.

To more effectively understand how light can alter the perception of the audience; we need to first understand how it alters our perception daily.

As we move through the quarter, I hope that this blog will help you to discover light in ways that you have not seen before.

Perhaps you'll see colors you've never noticed before, you may recognize the angle of a certain light, and you will find ways to articulate how light makes you feel.

To assist with this process, I've created this blog so that all of you may contribute a short piece every other week on an aspect of light that you have noticed throughout your journeys.

This can include a beautiful sunset, a great rock concert, a well-lit store, or just what happens to your emotions when the sun moves behind a cloud. Anything and everything can be included.

Pay special attention to Blog Topics listed in the blog assignments for specific weeks.

Title each post with the Week # of the quarter, Your Name, Prompt (if assigned) and a Subject.

Postings count towards your final grade.

Include photos or videos with your post to help us see what you are describing.

Whether or not you continue in lighting design after this class, I hope that this online journal will help you to discover inspiration for your art in daily life.

Thank you and Happy Blogging!!
